What if it isn't a dead man insurance but a rent policy? This much for a stay in KH and a quiet way out. This much for staying Russia?

It is plausible that he could be selling it off to the Chinese while in HK and/or to the Russian for all this time staying.

The question, of course, is what would DJT do? Pardon? Commute?

Even if he did use some of it as a rent policy, he would be an idiot not to have an insurance policy. Based on what I've read/heard of him and from him, I don't think he's an idiot.

If he was selling it, it would have had to be for future generations of his family. He can't all of a sudden start living wealthy, because that would be noticed. People would then start wondering where the money came from, and people (including the intelligence agencies) would realize that he's actually selling the information. His public reputation would be ruined and he would be discredited, and these are some of the bigger reasons the US hasn't attempted more direct ways of apprehending him (at least that we know of). I feel like him selling the information is just propaganda from the intelligence agencies to try to discredit both him, and the information he leaked.

I'm not sure what DJT would do. I do think that he should just pardon him though. Either he did it for the public good, and he isn't guilty of what they accuse him of. Or he is/was a spy and has an insurance policy, which would be embarrassing for the intelligence communities to admit, so we will never know. Even if this was the case, he still did a shitload of good by informing the people of what the fuck their govn't has been up to. So either way, the results were a good, so they shouldn't punish him.

On the train ride home I got into the evening briefings. Under the "Misc." section, there was a link pointed to an "unverified" and possibly unverifiable document, featuring Trump and associates doing things best described as "compromised." I am sure by now you already heard/read about it, so I don't have to go into the details.

What I am curious is white noise level of the PEOTUS. This time 2008, things were different. BHO came in with the credit/liquidity crises to solve on Day 1. DJT doesn't have that kind of magnitude of a problem. So in its stead, PEOTUS is now riddled with reports portraying him either as a dangerous buffoon, or a compromised one.

If years from now we learn that the Russian prop. apparatus has a thing or two to do with it, would we just sum it up as an expected event in the post-truth era? I don't have to vote for DJT to feel for his frustration that he was already undermined by forces beyond his control, long before he could have any power to do anything about it.

Come to think of it, once in power, which direction will the gun point? The messenger or the source?

Diz, yours truly was gluing ears to the confirmation hearing of Rex Tillerson. One revealing tidbit: Tillerson would not comment on whether Saudi's, SK's or Japan's acquisition of nukes would be a good idea. He said NK's acquisition would be bad, but left the answer blank on the rest.

For people who have been arguing that they're scared of Trump not being able to take insults or being brash, I'm surprised they're not saying how well Trump is handling everything. I think he's doing a great job of not exploding from all these attacks and attempts to undermine him, and I doubt many people would be able to handle it as well as he has been.

The messenger and the source are the same thing, both are working together to try and undermine him.

So this report was one passed around the government and both POTUS and POETUS were briefed on it. Sad thing is that one of the points was completely fabricated as a troll. So much for intelligence in "intelligence" agencies..

Tillerson's playing of a politician was on point. That was a completely diplomatic answer, not wanting to make our allies sad.

How about Trump wanting to make a commission for global warming and vaccines?

I am surprised with RFK Jr. Being on board. But be careful about blue ribbon commissions. We learned from 9/11 commission that they could be used as a political football, with their findinga being ignored. But I am open minded on that.

lol the 9/11 commission was a joke. I don't think it will be just for show, we know Trump cares about public opinion, and I don't think he'd do anything to fuck that up.

I find it interesting that a few news sources out of nowhere today decided to print stories about Russian hackers being able to put child porn on politicians computers. Especially because the pizzagate investigation has been gaining more and more traction.

Well 9/11 commission was the same kind of commissions that washington used. So if DJT plans to do something dif. I am all open minded for that. Any details on climate change commission?

Links on the cp stories pls? I haven't read up on that.

Meanwhile, the Intercept, as always, provided a clear-eye counter weight to the breathless discussion of the so-called "smoking gun" document. https://theintercept.com/2017/01/11/the ... ems-cheer/

Every time I read something so outlandish, I need something like this to re-balance my brain.

But Will Omerus over at Slate made an excellent point: the impulse to print outrageous shock-jock material is a reflexive attitude in a place where journalists see themselves as courageous bunch because they think they serve "as a societal counterweight to the tendency of people in positions of power to suppress information that could embarrass them." The more I think about this "dossier" the more I think about supermarket tabloids. Throw it out there, Buzzfeed said, so we can "make up" our minds whether it's true. Never mind if they can't verify it.

At the same time, I say DJT deserved this. He sooooo deserved this. For years he pushed the Birth Certificate BS until Obama drop-mic'd him with the actual long-form from State of Hawaii. How would DJT drop-mic this one? He has plenty of time.
